What would a native call Saint Petersburg?

Question by : What would a native call Saint Petersburg?
I’m talking about the Russian city, btw.

If you lived in Saint Petersburg, would you call your city “Saint Petersburg,” “Petersburg,” or “Piter”?

Also, on Wikipedia, it says that Saint Petersburg is often referred to as just “Petersburg” or “Piter.” I was wondering if those (specifically “Piter”) are just shortened terms with no connotation, or if they carry some sort of pejorative connotation or something?

Lastly, if I were writing a report, could I call it “St. Petersburg,” or do I have to write out the “Saint” in it?

Best answer:

Answer by Dude
Yes, if you were doing a report, you would have to say “St. Petersburg”, as it’s the official name of the city.

Well, you could just say Leningrad if you seem to have this much of a problem with writing in “Saint”. After all, that’s what it used to be called, and a lot of Russians still call it that.

Zenit St Petersburg : “Andrei Arshavin on his way to Arsenal”?

Question by Earshot: Zenit St Petersburg : “Andrei Arshavin on his way to Arsenal”?

http://www.sportsfeatures.com/index.php?section=olympic-article-view&title=Arshavin%20for%20Arsenal,%20say%20Zenit&id=44676

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/zenit-dangle-16320m-arshavin-in-front-of-arsenal-1208606.html

Finally some good news, Arshavin was linked with a move back in the summer window but it didn’t happen, With roSICKY out till March, Theo out till mid February it can’t get worse, oh yes it can, Cesc is reported to be out for 3 months! With Champions League qualification in doubt Wenger must get his cheque book out in January and spend some serious money, if Arshavin is worth £20 m then Nasri’s tag is somewhere around £18 mil.

What do you think, will it happen ?

Best answer:

Answer by baz
I heard that Zenit want to sell him, and with Arsenals woes at the moment especially after what happened to fabregas on the weekend and adebayor suspended for the next game, they could fall even further behind the pack. I think it is likely that Arshavin will head to Arsenal in the summer.

I actually meant january(winter), i live in australia, so it’s summer for me.
