Question by whistleblower33: Is there any point in writing an “appraisal” of a co-worker, unless only to thank them for good work well done?
Has an appraisal ever pinpointed a narcissist/”office powerpath” who typically causes orders of magnitude more damage than anyone else ?
To Julia,
The narcissist/”office powerpath” causes orders of magnitude more problems than the “vanilla” worker. Takes the whole organization “to hell in a handcar”. So is there any point in writing an “appraisal” of a co-worker, unless only to thank them for good work well done?

of course there is a point and you are TOTALLY missing IT!
An appraise should be a focus on skills, talents and opportunities.. its not supposed to be brown nosing or patting someone on the head. you need to look for opportunities to extend the persons skills… new opportunities, responsibilities etc. its a way to say well done you have done this well… how can we now expand you and stretch your skills. you need to set aims and goals.. so the person feels motivated.
Use SWAT analysis…. strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats… and KISS keep it short and simple!

Question by Shariputra: Is there something odd about the concept of “staff appraisal” ?
If I write a negative appraisal I not only offend the person I’m “appraising” but also am attacking the director of my division and the director of the personnel division.
To Mark,
Thanks.
